AI Usage Policy at Magicon Artist Alley.
At Magicon, we value the originality and dedication of every artist who participates in our Artist Alley. To support this commitment, we have implemented a policy banning the display and sale of AI-generated images within this space. We are proud to host an Artist Alley where artwork is created by human hands, reflecting the unique vision and skill of each artist.
While we stand by our ban on AI-generated images, we want to be transparent about the limits of our resources. At this time, we do not have the tools or personnel necessary to effectively identify all uses of AI in artwork. Enforcing a strict, broader AI ban is a complex task, one that would require specialised knowledge and technologies beyond our current capacity.
Our aim is to create a welcoming, artist-focused environment, so we rely on the honesty and integrity of our participants. By bringing your work to Magicon’s Artist Alley, we ask that each artist respects this policy and upholds the spirit of our community. Why don’t you completely ban all usage of AI?
AI tools are used in many ways outside of image generation, such as for managing schedules, organising portfolios, and even for marketing and communication. Banning all forms of AI would mean restricting artists from using tools that help with non-creative tasks. Our goal is to specifically prevent AI-generated images in the Artist Alley, so the focus remains on human-made art at Magicon.
What will happen if someone brings AI-generated images?
Artists found displaying or selling suspected AI-generated images in the Artist Alley may be asked to provide proof of their work’s originality. If proof cannot be provided, they may be required to remove those pieces or, in some cases, leave the event. Violations of our policy may also impact an artist’s ability to participate in future Magicon events.
How will you know if artwork is AI-generated?
We rely on the honesty of our artists and the transparency of our community. While we do not have the resources to identify all instances of AI use, any evident use of AI-generated images will be taken seriously and addressed accordingly.
